“Cháu tôi đi thi cấp 3, cả nhà lớn nhỏ gần 30 người nín thở. Ngày hôm qua (15/5), biết tin cháu đỗ vào trường mà cháu lựa chọn, cả nhà mừng rỡ. Tôi mừng vì cháu đỗ nhưng cũng không khỏi xót xa khi nghĩ đến những đứa trẻ không may mắn.
Thời buổi này, một xã hội đầy cám dỗ và dễ lạc lối, những đứa trẻ không đi học tiếp hoặc phải học ở những ngôi trường kém chất lượng, sẽ ra sao?

Nhớ lại ngày mình đi thi hết cấp 3, buổi tối trước hôm thi Toán, mẹ bảo mai cứ ngủ thêm, để mẹ dậy nấu cơm sáng cho. Sáng dậy ăn vội bát cơm và canh bí ngô cùng với cà muối rồi phóng xe đến trường.
Buổi tối về mẹ tần ngần bảo: Hôm nay con đi thi mà mẹ lại nấu canh bí, nhưng nhà mình chẳng còn gì ăn nữa, con thi thế nào? Tôi bảo: Không sao đâu mẹ, con làm bài được..
Sau đó đến đợt thi đại học, tôi phải tự đi đến Quốc Oai ở trọ với một người bạn tên Kim Thanh rồi nấu cơm ăn cùng nhau mà chẳng có phụ huynh chăm sóc.
Hôm biết điểm, tôi mừng quá về đến ngõ gào lên: “Mẹ ơi, con đỗ đại học rồi, thừa điểm đi nước ngoài mẹ ạ”. Mẹ chỉ cười, nhỏ nhẹ nói: “Tốt quá”. Rồi mẹ đi lục tìm được một con mực khô dành dụm từ bao giờ tự tay nướng lên để mấy mẹ con liên hoan.
Mẹ còn bảo: “Hôm nay ăn mực thì không sao rồi”
Nhớ lại những ngày gian khó, đói ăn đó mà vẫn thấy nhẹ nhàng. Suốt cả thời đi học, tôi chẳng bao giờ được bố mẹ đi họp phụ huynh, tự phải đi đào hầm, dựng lán học cùng với bố mẹ của các bạn.
Hồi đó bố mẹ không bao giờ giục giã học hành vì đó là chuyện đương nhiên, trẻ con đi học là chuyện bình thường. Không ai phải vật vã, ám ảnh về chuyện học hành, thi cử như bây giờ.
Sự học ngày xưa không hoàn hảo nhưng sự học ngày nay thực sự là thảm hoạ”.
Sự học ngày nay
Một năm học mới bắt đầu. Cả xã hội chộn rộn, nháo nhác với chuyện học hành. Từ cấp khai tâm như tiểu học cho đến cấp trưởng thành như ĐH, nhìn đâu cũng thấy đầy những ngổn ngang.
Áp lực từ chương trình giáo khoa nặng nề cộng với quán tính chỉ tiêu, thi đua trong toàn hệ thống giáo dục đang đè nặng lên người học từng ngày, từng giờ. Tình trạng trẻ buộc phải biết chữ trước khi vào lớp 1, chuyện dạy thêm, học thêm, bệnh thành tích, giáo khoa từ chương ôm đồm… trở thành những vấn đề giải quyết mãi không xong. Học sinh hôm nay đến trường, bên cạnh chiếc cặp quá tải còn trĩu nặng tâm lý lo âu.
Nhìn vào bức tranh tuyển sinh ĐH, CĐ năm nay có thể thấy sự rối rắm đang là dẫn chứng cụ thể nói lên chất lượng chính sách giáo dục và hệ quả của những đường lối thiếu tính toán. Về phương diện kinh tế, trong khi trên lý thuyết, giáo dục được coi là quốc sách, là phúc lợi, là không chấp nhận thương mại hóa… thì trên thực tế, người dân vẫn đang gồng gánh những khoản nặng nề để con cái theo đuổi sự học. Đó là chưa nói đến những khoản phí liên quan như xoay xở thi cử, kể cả học những kỹ năng căn bản mà nhà trường không dạy hoặc dạy một cách qua loa, lệch lạc.
Các khoản đầu tư cho giáo dục tăng; lo lắng, tâm não đổ vào cuộc chạy theo cơ chế tăng trong khi chất lượng sản phẩm giáo dục được đào tạo ra lại không đáp ứng mong đợi – tỉ lệ thất nghiệp sau tốt nghiệp ĐH cao, trình độ đào tạo trong nước chưa thể liên thông với các tiêu chuẩn toàn cầu, chưa hoàn toàn đáp ứng yêu cầu thị trường lao động trong nước…
Trong khi các quan chức giáo dục đang tự thỏa mãn với những “tiến bộ” trong giáo dục so với ngày hôm qua, như một phép thắng lợi tinh thần thì người dân đang trả giá quá nặng nề, tương lai đất nước phải chịu thiệt thòi quá lớn từ những chính sách thiếu bài bản.
Nguyên nhân do đâu? Ba điều mà GS Hoàng Tụy (nhận Giải thưởng Phan Châu Trinh về giáo dục năm 2010) đã chỉ ra trong cuốn “Giáo dục: Xin cho tôi nói thẳng” (NXB Tri Thức): Giáo dục sa sút không phải vì thiếu tiền mà vì quản lý yếu kém; cần sự cải cách có hệ thống chứ không nên là những đổi mới vụn vặt; giáo dục không phải là phòng thí nghiệm, càng không phải là nơi để học việc lãnh đạo. “Sự sa sút của giáo dục có nguyên nhân khách quan: do đất nước nghèo, đầu tư không đủ, do trình độ non yếu của thầy cô giáo, do ý thức người dân lạc hậu, do phụ huynh cũng là “đồng tác giả” của nhiều sai lầm yếu kém của giáo dục… Đương nhiên, tất cả những nguyên nhân này đều đúng song muốn lay chuyển tình hình phải thừa nhận nguyên nhân chủ yếu, nguyên nhân của mọi nguyên nhân, đó là lãnh đạo, quản lý bất cập, bất cập cả tâm lẫn tầm và từ trên xuống dưới” – GS Tụy diễn giải.
Đầu năm học mới, tiếng trống trường vang lên trong rộn ràng và ngổn ngang âu lo. Tương lai giáo dục sẽ ra sao nếu nhìn vào mọi cấp học đều thấy rối bời? Có lẽ sự mất mát lớn nhất là sự bất xác tín của chính người học, của phụ huynh, của người dạy, người dân nói chung vào nội lực, con đường của nền giáo dục; qua đó cũng phản ánh phần nào viễn kiến của họ về tương lai đất nước.
